Hiking

Since discovering that Henry loves hiking on our trip to Algonquin I've been trying to recreate the experience back at home for him. I had to come up with some local trails that were not gravel because I know Henry loves to just sit and play with rocks when they are available.

First we went to Breithaupt Park which was great: dirt paths with some tree roots to step over and lots of up and down. We both had a great time.

And then we tried walking through the little path that goes through the forest in Moses Springer Park, right in our neighbourhood. Henry was having a great time but I turned us around after about 5 minutes because there were just too many mosquitoes, will have to try that one again in another month.

Being away at Algonquin has given me a new appreciation for the natural beauty around home. Henry and I will have to do some more local hiking this month.

Nature Walk

Henry and I went on a nature walk this morning in Hillside Park, just a 5 minute walk from our house.
We explored the forest.

We explored the creek.
At first Henry only wanted to throw rocks into the water.
But then I put my feet in and he thought he might like to too. He liked to walk in and out of the water but only right at the edge while holding my hand.
And then he got more adventurous and wanted to walk down the creek right in the middle. Luckily he was happy enough to hold my hand while we walked along the creek a bit.
And on our way home we saw the most exciting things - cars!

And The Ducks

I somehow forgot to add any duck pictures in the last post, oh well I'll do a separate post. We came across this group of ducks at the end of the walk so I took Henry out of the carrier to give him a better look.

Nature Walk

We've been getting some lovely warm weather this week and Henry and I have been taking full advantage and going on lots of nature walks. He loves them. We walk to Hillside Park and I take him out of the ergo and let him do some exploring. He gets to check out the creek and the leaves on the ground and the trees. And each day I seem to let him get a little dirtier than the day before.

The past couple days I didn't take my camera and totally just enjoyed the moment but it was so picturesque that today I brought the camera. And so of course it turned into a full on photo shoot and these are some of my favourites.

The view from my hammock

I swear I don't remember Spring being so beautiful. I am still really enjoying this nice weather, got to spend some time this afternoon relaxing in the hammock. Here are some pictures of the view from my hammock.

Perfect Last day of April

It was a really nice warm day so Henry and I did lots of walking. In the afternoon we went to Breithaupt Park to look at all the trilliums. And then after dinner we went out again with Daddy and saw lots of ducklings and explored some Waterloo trails that we hadn't found before.

And Henry is still exploring his hands too.

Family Day 2010

We had a very nice family day weekend with my mum and sister visiting. We went on a few nice walks including RIM Park. And we did a chocolate fondu on Valentine's Day. The fondu was so easy and fun, I want to do it more often.

Feeding the ducks and squirrels

Had some duck visitors on the driveway again today so of course Kevin wants to try feeding them some apples again. This time it worked and they ate a bit. And a very cute squirrel came to finish their leftovers.
